Principles for Responsible Banking
On 12 October, the Swedish Bankers' Association joined the UN Principles for Responsible Banking as a supporting organisation. The principles aim to bring the banking sector in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement and other national and international climate goals.
It is an ambitious initiative that sets the standard for how the banking industry serves people, societies and the planet to secure prosperity for current and future generations.
As an organisation, the Swedish Bankers' Association undertakes to encourage member banks to adhere to the principles and to join them, as several of them have already done. More than 200 banks and organisations around the world have signed the principles, including all the major Nordic banks. The banks signing the principles undertake to set their own goal, to identify their current environmental and social impacts, and to report externally on how the bank implements the principles.
- Signing the UN Principles for Responsible Banking is one of the things we have committed to in the Joint Climate Roadmap of the Swedish Bankers' Association and banks. The climate roadmap is our framework for how the Swedish banking sector will work to contribute to Sweden's net-zero emissions target by 2045," says Hans Lindberg, CEO of the Swedish Bankers' Association.
